Old times (If you know what I mean). :)

WISHFUL THINKING

by Anonymous

In a new school with more friends, different individualities and adoptive changes in a whole new different level, it was a fresh start for her and of college life. Most student waver in both social and academic aspects in college by which some fail their subjects or some get into vices, but she was not part of these. Academically, she was one of the known bright students of the class because of her urge to recite, her precise use of words and good command of the English language, and most of all, she has been consistent on topping examinations. On the first time seeing her, you’ll notice just by looking at her eyes the cheerfulness and comprehensible diligence that she’s ready to offer.  These characteristics render a very good impression to someone, yet, there is one problem; she has a very hesitant aura, therefore giving you with such a complicated façade and impression to deal with. But then first impressions are temporary and should not be the basis of prejudice.

Celestine Joan “CJ” de los Angeles is a nineteen-year-old student in the University of Santo Tomas and a major in Biology. Eventhough she is only almost 5 feet tall and thin, it didn’t stop her on doing what she likes and what she does best in a world dominated by men. Just like any other lady, she wants to look presentable to others. Most of her friends marked her with superficial or faddish appeal or taste in a current style or preference, thus trendy. But behind this girly image, a determined and persevered mid-fielder in football wherein she takes part as a varsity player in her college. Being a mid-fielder takes a lot from the player since it is one of the support pillars of the team.  As to what she is positioned in, you can easily conclude that being a mid-fielder, one must be spontaneous, feasible, dependent, and reliable in any moment, in any case, in any circumstances that bring about hardships. This is why she was qualified in that position because she acquires all of the given characteristics and was already proven by her teammates and her friends. In fact, this lady is a friend that you could talk to for hours or even a day. She is very concern and compassionate for others who needed her help. Actually, even if it’s not seen on her pretense because of the ought to look tough in front of her in need friend, deep inside, she’s very much concern, slightly frustrated, and panicking about it. Also, she is very generous in every aspect. When you need money, attention, time, or love, maybe she would be having second thought, but for sure, she will aid you up. Even if you plan on coaxing her, it’s okay, as long as you don’t cross her diminutive ego. Lastly, she has been an abiding daughter to her parents and a loving sister to her siblings. Though sometimes she may be obdurate with her beliefs and prudent with herself, she makes sure that in the end, no one would be humiliated and a verdict would be lift on.

A being for almost twenty-one years, a daughter for nineteen years, a sister, a friend; CJ has been experiencing challenges, enduring it and hanging unruffled. She seems tough, but behind that manqué façade of hers, a frivolous and kind-hearted child and fragile heart are yet to be discovered. Some say, “The kindest person would be triumphant”, then if she would be herself until the end, maybe, just maybe, she would really be triumphant in the end. Anyway, CJ would be CJ after all.

Force

Rollercoaster loops, gliding airplanes, tornadoes, currents and hanging bridges or just the simple fact of stirring a coffee in a certain way makes me wonder how things in this dense universe function efficiently. How come objects act differently  when in space? Does gravity really play a huge role in our everyday lives? What benefit do we get when friction takes place? And does light really have the capacity to distort what it is we think we see? These ideas have been randomly bothering my mind each time I try to question the world, and it is until I got to come across Physics that all that has been bits of curiosity became chunks of knowledge I have discovered.

Searching for the proper manner of mastering Physics could be a tedious task, but as they say, this course could may be listed as one of the most difficult subjects students often get intimidated with. I must admit that I belong to that group. But throughout the duration of this semester, I have grown to take interest and actually point out specific lessons I have acquired in General Physics. I cannot fully state all of what I have learned but with the numerous concepts and mechanisms taught, I could single out Work, Power and Energy; Impulse and Momentum; and Newton’s Laws of Motion as topics that caught my attention. During discussions, these concepts are manifested to me in such a way that I am able to dig deeper into what these concepts I have been dealing with over the years really are. Certain exercises we solve in class grabs my idea as to the real purpose of say for example, weight and its relationship with motion , how necessary it is and its essence towards movement. Sometimes, it does frustrate me when things get a little complex to the point that I do not understand why we have to deal with these worldly things. What about torques and the universal gravitational force have to do with me? Do freely falling objects and free body diagrams enhance my capabilities of being in the medical field? Sometimes I even get to ask could my net force during exams help me get through ceaseless pressures? But at the end of the day, I get to evaluate all the lessons I have had and on the side of Physics, makes me think that the formulas and theories introduced to us does not stay as plain textual and numerical representations. As we go along problems and devising solutions for them, we learn to be patient and critical about what we do. We sometimes fail to obtain the correct answer but we keep on trying and persevere until we get to do so. We analyze every single detail determining what’s been given and make the most out of it. Physics, as I have been establishing, builds not only what is in the mind but also our principles. That is, who we are.

Most importantly, I have come to realize that Physics is not just a mere subject that elucidates on how and why things work in a certain manner. Rather, Physics is a way of life and a matter of being.
